Description: This dry-mesic oak forest occurs on rich, loessal soils of the southern portion of Crowley's Ridge, Arkansas, on middle and upper slopes and undulating narrow finger ridges. Examples are dominated by <i>Quercus alba</i> and <i>Quercus falcata</i>, with a significant component of <i>Quercus velutina</i>. The subcanopy includes the overstory species as well as <i>Ostrya virginiana, Cornus florida, Carya tomentosa, Liriodendron tulipifera</i>, and <i>Magnolia acuminata</i>. A number of species may be present in the herbaceous layer.
