The canopy of stands is typically dominated by <i>Acer saccharum</i> and <i>Quercus muehlenbergii</i>. A characteristic subcanopy component is <i>Cotinus obovatus</i>. Other typical associates are <i>Antennaria parlinii, Carya tomentosa, Cladrastis kentukea, Philadelphus pubescens, Quercus rubra, Staphylea trifolia, Tradescantia ozarkana</i>, and <i>Woodsia obtusa</i>.
