Description:
This wet flatwoods of the South Atlantic Coastal Plain in Georgia is typified by a canopy which ranges from open to scattered, and is dominated by mixtures of <i>Pinus elliottii var. elliottii</i> and <i>Taxodium ascendens</i>. Scattered subcanopy trees are sometimes present, and may include <i>Acer rubrum var. trilobum, Persea palustris</i>, and <i>Nyssa biflora</i>. The shrub stratum is typically well-developed, and includes <i>Aronia arbutifolia, Clethra alnifolia, Hypericum brachyphyllum, Hypericum crux-andreae, Ilex glabra, Ilex myrtifolia, Morella cerifera, Morella caroliniensis, Persea palustris, Smilax laurifolia, Styrax americanus, Toxicodendron radicans ssp. radicans</i>, and <i>Viburnum nudum var. nudum</i>. Characteristic herbs are <i>Andropogon glomeratus var. hirsutior, Anthaenantia rufa, Aristida palustris, Oclemena reticulata, Balduina atropurpurea, Carex striata, Centella erecta, Chaptalia tomentosa, Cleistes</i> sp., <i>Coreopsis linifolia, Ctenium aromaticum, Dichanthelium dichotomum var. ensifolium, Dichanthelium scabriusculum, Erigeron vernus, Eriocaulon compressum, Eriocaulon decangulare var. decangulare, Eupatorium leucolepis, Ludwigia pilosa, Marshallia graminifolia var. cynanthera, Muhlenbergia expansa, Osmunda cinnamomea, Pinguicula caerulea, Pluchea rosea, Rhexia alifanus, Rhynchospora</i> spp., <i>Sabatia</i> spp., <i>Saccharum</i> sp., <i>Sarracenia minor, Scutellaria integrifolia, Sporobolus pinetorum, Triantha racemosa</i>, and <i>Woodwardia virginica</i>.
