Name: Schinus terebinthifolius / Pennisetum setaceum Ruderal Woodland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This semi-natural woodland is currently sampled from a single national historical park in Hawai`i, and this description is based on occurrences there. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. It is found on flat, very low-elevation (almost sea level) sites. The substrate is both a`a and pahoehoe lava. This association has a highly variable tree canopy of Schinus terebinthifolius 2-10 m tall. There is a very sparse shrub layer, with Leucaena leucocephala being the most common species. The herbaceous stratum is typically well-established; Pennisetum setaceum is nearly the only species present.
