Description: This association is currently only described from the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. This open pignut hickory woodland is found along ridgetops often with exposed bedrock. <i>Carya glabra</i> is the sole dominant in the canopy. Dominant shrubs include <i>Quercus ilicifolia, Vaccinium angustifolium, Vaccinium pallidum</i>, and <i>Gaylussacia baccata</i>. <i>Carex pensylvanica</i> and <i>Deschampsia flexuosa</i> are characteristic herbs.
