Description: This forest occurs in active floodplains and in relict stream sloughs in the outer portions of the West Gulf Coastal Plain; this region is sometimes considered the pine flatwoods part of the region. Dominant canopy species are typically <i>Quercus laurifolia, Liquidambar styraciflua, Nyssa biflora</i>, and <i>Acer rubrum</i>. It also appears to occur on flats in a pine flatwood landscape. <i>Sabal minor</i> can be common in the shrub layer.
