Name: Bursera microphylla - Jatropha cuneata - Stenocereus thurberi Desert Scrub Alliance Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019 Description: This alliance is widespread in northern Sonora, Mexico. The vegetation is characterized by tropical genera <i>Jatropha</i> and <i>Bursera</i>, which are typically present in these sparse to dense shrub-dominated stands. Diagnostic species are <i>Bursera microphylla, Jatropha cuneata, Pachycereus pecten-aboriginum, Pachycereus pringlei, Pachycereus schottii</i>, and <i>Stenocereus thurberi</i>. Understory herbaceous species are usually sparse or absent. These sites often have areas with large rock outcrops or unstable slopes and may have few shrubs growing on them.
