Name: Bursera microphylla - Jatropha cuneata - Pachycereus schottii Desert Scrub Group
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This vegetation group is widespread in northern Mexico, found on both sides of the Gulf of California (roughly corresponding to the Central Gulf Coast Region of the Sonoran Desert). The vegetation is characterized by tropical genera Jatropha and Bursera, which are typically present in these sparse to dense shrub-dominated stands. Diagnostic species are Bursera microphylla, Jatropha cuneata, Pachycereus pecten-aboriginum, Pachycereus pringlei, Pachycereus schottii, and Stenocereus thurberi. Understory herbaceous species are usually sparse or absent. These sites often have areas with large rock outcrops or unstable slopes and may have few shrubs growing on them. Stands are restricted to frost-free areas and do not occur higher into the foothills where ~Sonoran Paloverde - Mixed Cacti Desert Scrub Group (G293)$$ would tend to occur.
