Name: Impatiens capensis - Symplocarpus foetidus - Caltha palustris Seep Alliance
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: These circumneutral or slightly calcareous groundwater seeps are typically dominated by forbs, including Angelica atropurpurea, Caltha palustris, Impatiens capensis, and Symplocarpus foetidus. Other species that may be found include Carex lacustris, Carex stricta, Glyceria striata, and Thelypteris palustris. This type is found throughout the Central Appalachian, northeastern and north-central United States and eastern temperate Canada. Stands are found on lower slopes of glacial moraines, ravines, and terraces around seepage areas, where circumneutral or slightly calcareous groundwater seeps to the surface. Peat sometimes accumulates to a depth of 1 m. Other sites have little organic material, with groundwater typically welling up through carbonate-encrusted gravel.
