Description: This alliance is found in the eastern half of the United States and southern Canada. This is a submergent aquatic alliance; emergent species are not common. Total vegetation cover ranges from open to dense and is dominated by native <i>Myriophyllum</i> species, usually <i>Myriophyllum heterophyllum, Myriophyllum spicatum</i>, and <i>Myriophyllum verticillatum</i>. This alliance occurs in permanently flooded portions of ponds, lakes, and river backwaters where current and wave action is not great. Water depth is typically 1-3 m.
