Description: This alliance comprises riparian vegetation occurring on rocky, sandy, or cobbly substrates. High base status caused by groundwater seepage or calcareous parent materials, is typical. Graminoids and forbs are common, and shrubs are often present. Characteristic species include some combination of <i>Alnus incana, Alnus viridis, Cornus sericea, Dasiphora fruticosa ssp. floribunda, Triantha glutinosa, Doellingeria umbellata</i>, multiple species of <i>Carex</i> (often <i>Carex stricta</i>), <i>Thalictrum pubescens</i>, and <i>Deschampsia cespitosa</i>. Species richness is relatively high, with the presence of a number of calciphilic plants. This vegetation occurs in New England, New York and northern New Jersey, with disjunct locations in West Virginia and possibly Pennsylvania.
