Name: Dudleya greenei - Dudleya spp. Succulent Scrub Alliance
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: The alliance forms an open to intermittent herbaceous layer. The shrub layer is sparse to open and the tree layer is absent. Dudleya greenei is a dominant herb, and characteristic herbs include Carpobrotus chilensis and Atriplex californica. Those often present are Astragalus miguelensis and Erigeron glaucus. Commonly associated emergent shrubs at sparse cover include Isocoma menziesii, Coreopsis gigantea, and Eriogonum grande. The alliance occurs on San Miguel Island and may occur elsewhere in California and possibly Baja California, Mexico. It has been found on the middle to upper third of a slope at typically northern aspects. Soils are derived from a variety of substrates including volcanic flow rocks and alluvium. Soil textures include moderately coarse, sandy loam. Elevations range from approximately 20 to 140 m.
