Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This coastal shrubland forms a sparse to open shrub layer, with a generally sparse herbaceous layer. Dominant shrubs are Deinandra clementina, often with Coreopsis gigantea and/or Eriogonum giganteum. Other shrub and subshrub species present may include Constancea nevinii, Diplacus aurantiacus, Dudleya caespitosa, Dudleya virens, Galium buxifolium, Grindelia camporum, and Rhus integrifolia. Sage and Salvia are not present or not abundant. Soils are derived primarily from tertiary volcanic flow rocks or minor pyroclastic deposits, and soil textures are primarily fine clay. Elevations range from approximately 40 to 80 m. The alliance is endemic to the Channel Islands and has been sampled on Anacapa, Santa Barbara, San Clemente, and Santa Catalina islands.
